ANTWERP GIPSY-SKA ORCHESTRA

Antwerp, a city renowned for its history and international port, has always been a vibrant melting pot of cultures. Within this diverse environment, Antwerp Gypsy-Ska Orkestra shines as an extraordinary live band. Their electrifying performances have enthralled audiences across Europe, from Ukraine to Spain, Portugal to Italy, the UK to France, Switzerland to Austria, Hungary to the Czech Republic, and their home country of Belgium. They’ve even taken their music to Ulan-Ude, the capital of Siberia’s Republic of Buryatia. Their presence has graced renowned festivals like Dour, Lowlands, Sziget (twice), and Life Festival Oświęcim, sharing stages with the likes of Peter Gabriel.
In 2023, Antwerp Gypsy-Ska Orkestra proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary, a testament to its exceptional musical artistry.
Band leader Gregor Engelen shares, “We play a unique genre we’ve crafted ourselves. Surprisingly, musicians in Venezuela have formed a band inspired by our style, and we’ve had the pleasure of performing with them. There’s also a gipsy band in Kosovo that covers several of our songs.”
With vocals in Dutch, French, English, and even Romani, Gregor Engelen’s versatility shines. Although not fluent in Romani, he has gained an understanding through exposure, highlighting the language’s cultural richness.

Produced by Alain Croisy (Lunaman) from Belgium and Jamie Evans from England, the band’s sixth album is set to release in November 2023, accompanied by an exciting club tour. With their fusion of cultures, innovative sound, and captivating performances, Antwerp Gypsy-Ska Orkestra continues to push boundaries, delivering an unforgettable musical experience. Prepare to be swept away by their infectious energy and eclectic melodies.
