DRUG CHURCH (US) + SINGLE MOTHERS (CAN)

Mendville presents

DRUG CHURCH (USA – Pure Noise Records)
Drug Church is a hardcore punk band from Albany, New York. The band has released two full-length albums, as well as several EPs. They have a new record coming out called “Cheer”. Cheer, the highly anticipated new full-length from punk rock agitators, Drug Church, is out on Pure Noise Records. The album feels like a culmination of everything Drug Church have been building towards since their debut. The band’s signature blend of aggressive hardcore and massive ’90s alternative indebted hooks has been pushed to new heights, packing a memorable punch into every moment of Cheer. Vocalist/lyricist Patrick Kindlon (also of Self Defense Family) is top form lending each track an often uncomfortable but always essential humanity. The album has already been critically praised, with Stereogum recently calling it, “absolutely 100% perfect from beginning to end” and praising Kindlon’s lyrics saying, “Cheer is absolutely essential to this very moment in time. It doesn’t indulge in the apathy, irony, or empty sentimentality endemic to Gen-X; it is, instead, a furious thing that incinerates everything in its scope.”

SINGLE MOTHERS (CAN – Dine Alone / Big Scary Monsters)
Single Mothers has made a compelling case for bullshit. Not bullshit as in the self-serving act of using untruths for personal gain but rather how red flags, stacked odds and strike outs can somehow inspire a collective recklessness to keep at it. Founded by poet and vocalist Drew Thomson in 2008, the band began as a means for payback. However, due to Thomson’s short fuse and tendency to destroy equipment, Single Mothers quickly ran through 9 members. “Negative Qualities” was their first full length and put the band on the map. Well, not really … their first EP was released by Jeremy Bolm’s Secret Voice, so I guess that was it. They recently released their new record “Through A Wall” and they just keep on raging. Single Mothers broke up in 2009 and has been playing shows ever since.
