KOBRA X TO BE ANTWERP
Kobra is a project that coordinates the visual arts program of Kavka vzw, by supporting young artists and artist collectives – no matter what kind of background or experience they have – and by helping them organise their own projects. This is the fourth edition of To Be Antwerp in which Kavka partakes and in which we are proud to present an amazing and very diverse group of young artists that graduated in the crazy year of 2020.

TO BE ANTWERP 2020 | WINDOW EXPO WALK
Each year, To Be Antwerp organises an art route with exhibitions in de Theaterbuurt (the ’theatre area’ of Antwerp) of the graduates of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and St. Lucas School of Arts Antwerp. Covid-19 has blocked a lot of opportunities for these young artists in 2020 and to be able to still go through with the exhibition walk, To Be vzw and all of the participants of this event will present the work of the artists behind their windows. The audience can enjoy the exhibitions from the outside looking in. The window walk exhibition of To Be Antwerp 2020 will start Friday November 27 and closes December 11.
At Kavka there will be a different exhibition every 5 days (each time with an interval of a day to make the switch to the next exhibition) and there will be an additional week of exhibition (until the 19th of December) to be able to present all 9 artists and the 5 additional performers that normally would have been gathered into one big exhibition throughout the entire Kavka building.
You can find the map with all the locations and the art route on at www.tobeantwerp.com from the 25th of November.

Tuesday 15.12 – Saturday 19.12

✘ Victoria Pérez Castillo | Sculpture (expo) | Untitled
The sculptures created by victoria Pérez Castillo are created in a game of opposite features or ideas: they are complexly defined by being ordinary yet strange, friendly yet unsettling, tough yet delicate … They are formed by a process of the artist reflecting on her surroundings and on her relationship with these surroundings. By creating art, she attempts to understand the contexts that she finds herself living in, and the interaction and impressions that she experiences within these contexts.

✘ Fleur Roggeman | @fleurroggeman | Installation (projection) | Interactive Sound Installation
The inspiration for the installation build by Fleur Roggeman, stems from how people’s actions have influence on their surroundings. The goal is to raise awareness about the impact of our actions. When there is sound, the installation reacts by projecting a red bubble. The colours are a reference to the dramatic bushfires that occurred in 2019, which turned the sky from being blue into deep red. The sounds that are created, represent on the other hand the kind of impact that we have on our surroundings that cannot be directly seen.

✘ Othi Berry | @othiberry | Slam poetry (projection) | Bord Ezanga Thème
✘ Nina Muñoz | @ninamunozz | Dance / Performance (projection) | Untitled
Due to the current impossibility for the audience to test Roggemans’ installation themselves, two performing artists, a poet and a dancer, will interact with the installation. These creative collaborations will be filmed beforehand and screened at Kavka and the website of To Be Antwerp.
Othi Berry is the first performer to collaborate with the installation of Roggemans. He is a slam poet who writes without themes, but who chooses to simply follow his heart and let his fingers put into words what one’s mind doesn’t say out loud. He named this project ‘Bord Ezanga Thème’, which is in Lingala, a language spoken in The Congo. If he had to translate this, it would be something along the lines of: ‘That Thing that is Themeless’. The reason for this title is that he wants his audience to walk inside his mind, without knowing what to expect beforehand. He asks the audience to open up their mind and accept what he will throw their way.
Nina Muñoz will show an improvised dance performance, a spontaneous play between man, environment and sound, and this in relation to the installation of Fleur Roggemans. Muñoz is a dancer and performer, but also a creator and graduate in Business Engineering. Her interests are clearly divers and cross-disciplinary. She believes that building bridges between disciplines is the ideal recipe for an innovating and dynamic society. As a dancer and performer, she has had experience with different styles and disciplines in performing arts, and has experimented by using various performing languages until she developed her own individual language of movement. She is inspired by social dynamics and fixed structures in society and tries to denaturalise these patterns. She rethinks and makes them anew, for which, according to her, performing arts are the perfect research media, as they are able to take distance from such realities.
